Utah Arts & Museums Breaking Barriers Program

The Breaking Barriers program is currently accepting applications until Dec. 20, 2024. The next training cohort will meet virtually on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Jan. 15 to Feb. 19, 2025. This free training is for cultural organizations to enhance their knowledge of disability accessibility. Participants will receive 12 hours of instruction over six weeks, as well as a one-hour consultation provided by Art Access staff. Participants will develop accessibility plans that address making their physical sites and organizations more accessible to everyone. Learn more.

Department of Labor Salary Threshold Update

On November 15, a federal judge in Texas struck down the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) latest attempt to raise the minimum salary thresholds for the Fair Labor Standards Act’s (FLSA) white-collar overtime exemption, finding that the rule exceeded the agency’s statutory authority. The ruling stops the salary increase to $1,128 per week set to take effect on January 1, 2025, and further invalidates the prior increase that went into effect on July 1, 2024, as well as the rule’s automatic triennial salary level adjustments included in the DOL’s April 2024 overtime rule. Despite efforts to highlight our concerns and advocate for a different outcome, the House has passed HR 9495. We deeply appreciate the engagement and action taken by our members in voicing their perspectives on this legislation. As we assess the next steps, we remain committed to advocating for policies that strengthen and empower the nonprofit sector.
